Louise & Matthew’s Wedding Weekend in the Angus Glens
Some celebrations stay with you — and Louise & Matthew’s beautiful May wedding at Kinclune House & Estate is certainly one we’ll remember with deep fondness. As one of our featured Real Weddings this season, their weekend captured everything couples enjoy about our exclusive-use wedding venue in Angus, Scotland: time together, space to unwind and the freedom to shape a celebration that unfolds naturally across the estate.
An unforgettable outdoor ceremony
The highlight of the weekend was their ceremony on the lawn – the very first outdoor ceremony ever held at Kinclune. Set beneath mature trees with sweeping views across the Vale of Strathmore, guests gathered to watch Louise & Matthew exchange vows against one of the most dramatic backdrops in Angus. The soft, atmospheric skies only added to the sense of place, with the Simple Strings Quartet playing beautifully from the pergola while swallows fluttered and chirped overhead.
Kinclune House sits at the foot of Kinclune Hill, around 900 feet above sea level, giving the estate its signature panoramic outlook across farmland, woodland and distant hills – something guests commented on throughout the weekend. Our outdoor ceremony chairs framed the setting beautifully, creating a relaxed, elegant scene that felt wonderfully rooted in the landscape.
A full wedding weekend experience
With accommodation for up to 28 guests across Kinclune House and the estate cottages, Louise’s family and closest friends settled in for the full wedding weekend here in Scotland — something that always transforms the pace of a celebration. With just under 100 guests joining for the wedding day itself, the atmosphere remained intimate, warm and full of personality.
The weekend began on Friday evening with a laid back pre wedding gathering in the courtyard and The Arches. Around 85 guests enjoyed a relaxed BBQ featuring the family’s own exceptional Dunlouise Aberdeen Angus beef — a meaningful touch, as Louise’s family farm locally near Forfar. Access to The Arches for pre-wedding or post-wedding events is included with our venue hire, and it’s always lovely to see couples make the most of it.
Personal touches woven throughout
The wedding day was filled with thoughtful details that reflected the couple’s story. Louise, a vet, decorated parts of the venue with flowers arranged in colourful wellington boots — a playful, heartfelt touch that guests adored.
A beautifully restored vintage tractor, renovated as a gift for the couple, became an instant favourite for photographs and added another layer of personality to the day. We were also delighted to welcome back local piper Colin Barr, a retired vet, who previously worked with Louise in Kirriemuir.
The focus on family, farming and local produce continued into the wedding meal, where guests were once again treated to outstanding home-reared Dunlouise native Aberdeen Angus beef from Louise’s family farm. These native Angus cattle, recognised by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, can be traced back to the original bloodlines of the breed and are renowned for their exceptional flavour, marbling and buttery texture. Dani Stephens, head chef at Platter and Pop, described the beef as being of outstanding quality and “a pleasure to work with – it prepared and cooked beautifully.” Louise & Matthew’s guests were absolutely spoiled.
A seamless flow across the estate
Throughout the day, guests moved naturally between the lawn, courtyard, The Arches and The Granary, where dinner and dancing took place. One of the strengths of our exclusive use estate is the way these indoor and outdoor spaces connect, allowing celebrations to unfold without interruption.
Our team also repurposed the ceremony flowers from the lawn into the reception spaces, helping the day transition effortlessly from one moment to the next.
Kind words from the family
As Louise told us afterwards, the whole weekend was “wonderful from start to finish” and “just the most fabulous time — it really was magical.”
Her mum, Julia, also wrote:
“Geordie & I wanted to thank your whole team for making Louise and Matthew’s wedding so very special this weekend. Your house is exceptional and you have made it so comfortable. Flowers were smoothly repurposed from the lawn to the venue by the Kinclune team. Some of our guests were blown away with the venue. You have set a very high bar. Thank you all once again and you deserve to be very successful with your beautiful venue.”
